LIFE ist eines der wichtigsten Finanzierungsinstrumente der EU für den Natur- und Umweltschutz in Europa. Seit bald zwei Jahrzehnten, genauer seit 1992, wurden schon insgesamt 2.750 Naturschutzprojekte mit über 1,35 Milliarden Euro gefördert – und auch in diesem Jahr werden für Projekte wieder 250 Millionen Euro bereitgestellt (Anträge können übrigens bis 15. September 2009 gestellt werden, Infos hierzu unter:

Einige der bisher unterstützten Projekte hatten speziell auch den Erhalt europäischer Amphibien und Reptilien zum Thema, und eine Auswahl dieser geförderten Projekte, die sich z. B. mit Habitat-Wiederherstellung, Gefangenschafts-Nachzucht ("captive breeding“) oder Wiederansiedlung befassen, wird nun in einer im Juni erschienenen, 60-seitigen Broschüre der EU-Kommission vorgestellt.
